Nanten-en Osaka

Description

Overlooking a large Japanese Garden, Nanten-en, with its traditional Japanese architecture, is nationally listed as a tangible cultural property of Japan. At Nanten-en, you can enjoy carefully selected seasonal Japanese cuisine and relax in natural radium hot springs. Treat yourself to the very best in “Ryokan Culture”.

Yamasaki-san, the owner of Nanten-en, is a master of traditional Tea Ceremony and Ikebana flower arranging. He often holds cultural classes with guests, accompanied by an English speaking member of staff. These classes cover not only the practical aspect of these arts, but dive deep into their fascinating history and philosophy.

The villages surrounding Nanten-en hide a surprising amount of history, going back as far as 2,000 years, and the quiet country lanes make it easy to forget that the bright lights of downtown Osaka are only 40 minutes away.

The villages can be explored on foot or by rental cycle and Nanten-en have prepared special GoogleMaps to help you find your way around. For guests staying more than one night, Mount Kongo and Mount Iwawaki make for interesting day hikes and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Koyasan is a little over an hour to the south by train.
