In Naoshima, stay at the stylish Wright Style Naoshima hotel and visit the famous Benesse House, a unique museum-hotel that features contemporary art installations and exhibits.

Enjoy private tours of the house projects and take a high-speed boat to the nearby island of Teshima to explore the stunning art museums and installations. Rent bicycles to navigate the islands with ease and indulge in local seafood and Japanese cuisine at handpicked restaurants.

The tour includes a Matcha tea ceremony experience at Ritsurin Garden, and all logistics are taken care of by a knowledgeable local tour conductor. Join us on this exciting journey and discover the art and culture of the Seto Inland Sea.

Itinerary

  • Arrive at Takamatsu Station by train.
  • Meet your guide and walk to JR Clement to drop off your luggage.
  • Walk to the port and take the ferry to Naoshima.
  • Rent a bicycle from the port.
  • Transfer to the a local restaurant in Honmura Area
  • Enjoy lunch inside Honmura Area
  • Take a private guided tour of the house projects in the Honmura area. Visit 5 of the following attractions: Kadoya, Go’o Shrine, Minami-dera, Ishibashi, Gokaisho, Haisha, ANDO Museum.
  • Transfer to your accommodation in Naoshima.
  • Depart from the hotel after breakfast.
  • Take the public high-speed boat from Naoshima to Teshima. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes.
  • Meet your local guide at Teshima.
  • Take a bicycle and start the tour.
  • Visit Teshima Museum, an art museum designed by architect Ryue Nishizawa, which houses contemporary art installations and exhibits.
  • Visit Les Archives, a renovated traditional Japanese house that has been turned into an art space with a collection of photographs and other materials related to the history and culture of Teshima.
  • Transfer to Umi-No-Restaurant for lunch.
  • Enjoy lunch at Umi-No-Restaurant, which features fresh seafood and local specialties.
  • Transfer to Yokoo House.
  • Visit Yokoo House, a house designed by artist Tadanori Yokoo, which features colorful murals, installations, and sculptures.
  • Walk around the port and explore the local area.
  • Take the public high-speed boat from Teshima to Naoshima. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes.
  • Transfer to your accommodation in Naoshima.
  • Depart from the hotel after breakfast.
  • Meet the tour conductor at Naoshima and start the tour.
  • Visit the Red Pumpkin, a signature artwork by Yayoi Kusama located on the beach of Naoshima.
  • Transfer to Benesse House and visit the Yellow Pumpkin on the way.
  • Take a private guided tour of Benesse House, an art museum and hotel that houses contemporary art installations and exhibits.
  • Have lunch inside Naoshima at a local restaurant that serves Japanese cuisine and local specialties.
  • Take a private guided tour of the Chichu Art Museum after lunch. The exact tour time will be confirmed after booking.
  • Take the ferry back to Takamatsu after the tour. Your guide can help you with the ferry schedule and tickets.
  • Check-out from the hotel after breakfast.
  • Transfer to Ritsurin Garden, a historic Japanese garden that features traditional landscaping and architecture.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of Ritsurin Garden, which includes a stroll through the gardens, ponds, and tea houses.
  • Take part in a Matcha tea ceremony experience at Kikugetsutei, a traditional tea house located within Ritsurin Garden.
  • Drop off the clients back to JR Clement Takamatsu, where the trip ends.

  • Full payment is required 60 days prior to travel
  • Tour cost is based on 12 participants. Experience Japan reserves the right to re-cost or cancel the tour should this number not be attained

  • Transportation, entrance fees and meals on free days are not included
