Myoko is no big city. It’s a real mountain ski town, snuggled in at the base of one of Japan’s most beautiful mountains. Here you will find the profound silence that comes with the heavy snows. The billowing steam of onsen (hot springs), ready to warm you after a day in the snow. Delicious local soba noodles and sasazushi (a unique style of sushi using local bamboo leaves), as well as other Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine. Fine saké painstakingly made by local artisan brewers the old-fashioned way. The friendly faces of passers-by, greeting you with a hearty ohayo gozaimasu! Sublime sunrises illuminating Mt. Akakura Kanko Hotel is a luxury ski in/out (Akakura Onsen ski area) property, nestled high on the slopes of majestic Mt Myoko was established in 1937, and was one of the first European-style ski resorts in Japan. From its 1,000-meter perch are 360 degree views of the mountains, Lake Nojiri sparkling to the east, and, on a clear day, all the way to Sado Island across the Sea of Japan. The Hotel has recently undergone extensive renovation and has 52 comfortable, spacious guest rooms, both Western and Japanese, each with panoramic mountain views.
