Day 1: Arrive in Kiso

Arrive in Kiso in the afternoon, and check into your accommodation from 3pm. After a day of travel, take the opportunity to unwind and enjoy the facilities. Try out the soothing onsen and arrange a traditional dinner of local produce. Rest up ahead of a busy few days.

Day 2: Nakasendo Walking

Let the Nakasendo Trail adventure begin by taking the train from Kiso-Fukushima to Nakatsugawa, then a bus to Magome. The Magome–Tsumago trail is 8km long, passing the homes and fields of locals and amazingly preserved post-towns. Return to your accommodation to rest for another active day.

Day 3: Climb Mt. Ontake
Climbing Mt. Ontake is a centuries old religious pilgrimage of prayer and purification. Natural beauties and ancient shrines lie in wait. The climbing routes vary to suit any schedule or physical ability; a ropeway can even be taken up to the 7th station to commence a climb from a higher altitude. Be sure to check for trail closures ahead of your visit.

Day 4: Depart Kiso
Before heading to the next destination, take the morning to enjoy a walk in the town of Kiso-Fukushima. See restored Edo-period architecture, the Kouzen-ji temple with Asia’s largest rock garden, the Yamamura residence and the Fukushima Checkpoint museum.
